At Morris K Udall the counselor proactively assists students to develop and apply skills for maximum educational, career, personal, and social growth during school years and beyond. Counseling is an intervention made available to all students in the areas of developmental needs, personal concerns, or problems, which might affect their education. The counselor functions as a consultant and an advocate for students and provides professional expertise to help staff, parents, and other community members understand individual behavior and human relationships. Domains in which the counselor assists students are:

  • Assist in crisis situations.
  • Help students build social and behavioral skills that enable them to be productive citizens in society.
  • Serve as a liaison between school and outside agencies.
  • Help identify students with special needs.
  • Provide interventions.
  • Work with administration and teachers to prevent and intervene before behavior issues hinder the educational process.
  • Provide individual and group counseling, based on student need (examples, Divorce and/or Separation, Self Esteem, Behavior groups, Bullying, Peer Pressure, and Anger).
