The David Kazan Family Educational Center has two
facets of education. First of all our focus is on family literacy.
Parents are taking classes in Parenting, Computer Literacy and English
as a Second Language. At the same time parents are in class, their
3 & 4 year old children are in a different classroom participating
in a comprehensive Preschool curriculum and their infants and toddlers
are participating in a child-enhancement program. Parents are also
given the opportunity through a partnership with Phoenix College
to participate in their PEP (parent education project) to earn college
credits for classes taken on Saturdays.
Adult members of our school district also have the
opportunity to participate in day and evening classes such as English
as a Second Language, GED, computer Literacy, Word, Excel and even
A+ Computer Certification Preparation.
I would like to quote Juliet Rosales-Johnson to sum
up exactly what we are about and what we are accomplishing at the
David Kazan Educational Center:
“At David Kazan, it’s not just about
ABC’s or learning numbers. At David Kazan,
- It’s about Commitment – not just for
one’s self, but a commitment to your child and for their
future.
- It’s about Community – building upon
and educating community members.
- It’s about Education – not just for
preschool aged children, but even for the Senior citizens enrolled
in
computer classes.
- It’s about Making a difference – in
the education of our students and in our community.
Center History
Who is David Kazan? Isn’t this where Tip Top
Nursery used to be? Questions, such as these have been asked numerous
times. To ease your curiosity, here’s the answers you’ve
been seeking.
Mr. David Kazan was a long time community member of
the Isaac School District. He moved to the valley in the early sixties
(60’s) and opened his first Tip Top Nursery at 43rd Avenue
and Thomas Road. It was a family affair at Tip Top Nursery —
from Mr. & Mrs. Kazan to their children. While speaking to Lisa
Kazan, she stated there are many happy memories at Tip Top Nursery.
When Ms. Kazan was asked about her father, she explained
Mr. Kazan was a very simple man who always loved the Isaac School
District community. He felt the community supported him for so many
years and wanted to give something back. AND DID HE EVER!
Mr. Kazan donated the Tip Top Nursery property to
the Isaac School District. In 2002, construction began for the David
Kazan Family Educational Center. It was “his gift of land,
our gift of education.”
History is taking a new life — a life of “Planting
Little Seeds For A Big Future.”
THANK YOU DAVID KAZAN! You will forever bloom in this
garden of life, community and education. |
