Programs

Keyboards
At Mitchell School, we have a fifth grade Keyboard Lab. We received
a Save the Music grant in 2000, which provided 16 Keyboards, teacher's
keyboard and lab equipment. Select students can learn to play
the keyboards. All students in third, fourth and fifth grade have
an opportunity to experiment with the keyboards and the different
sounds and rhythms that keyboards can make.
Our second graders perform for the Christmas program, along with
our Keyboard Club and our Sports Club members. First graders perform
for the Spring program and Kindergarteners perform for Kindergarten
graduation. Each program provides students an opportunity to sing,
use choreography, and dance for their parents.
P.E.
During September 3rd, 4th and 5th graders participate in the
Punt, Pass and Kick competition sponsored by the NFL and Pepsi.
Boys
and girls compete against their peers in the same age. This year
we had a student win first place in the sectional competition
and advance to Cardinal's stadium
The Sports Club is a club that
meets during the school day for students in 5th grade. The
students learn to square dance, ribbon
dance, tumbling and jump rope routines which they perform in
the Christmas and Spring programs. The Jump Rope For Heart Event is held in February for all students.
Students get sponsors to donate money that goes to the American
Heart Association to help fight heart disease and stroke, America's
# 1 and # 3 killers. Last year we raised over $2,000 dollars.
During
half days students participate in special activities like
the "Fun Run", "Active Day" and "Healthy
Heart Day."
Art
Our Art Club is currently suspended as our Art Teacher has been
put on active duty. Usually we have an Art Club which is responsible
for the props and decorations for our school events and Programs.

Special Education
The self-contained special education program is designed to provide
both academic and functional curriculums for students in a small
group environment. Our program stresses the importance of our
students being included in the general curriculum with their same-aged
peers as much as possible.
