Library

The Mitchell School Library/Media Center is located in the middle
of campus and is a busy hub for all.
The goals of the Mitchell School Library/Media Center are to provide
students with INFORMATION POWER and to instill a LIFELONG LOVE
OF READING! We integrate technology with print resources to provide
a full range of information and recreational reading.
The library staff consists of a full time librarian (Romaine Carrington)
and a part time library clerk/technologist (Kim Kehoe). We also
employ 30 student helpers to assist with day to day library function
and book collection. The collection consists of over 10,000 volumes
with a wide range of reference, fiction, non-fiction and picture
books for all reading levels. In addition, the library collection
is fully automated and accessed by the 16 student computers and
the circulation desk. Electronic resources are available for student
use and research. There also plenty of periodicals of particular
interest to grades K-5.
The library is open during school hours to scheduled classes.
Classes visit once every 6 days during the special area schedule
for library, research and technology skill lessons which reinforce
the Arizona State Reading Standards being taught in the classrooms.
In addition the library is open daily for parent, student, and
teacher checkout before school (7:30-8:00) and after school until
3:00.
We participate in READ ACROSS AMERICA in March to celebrate Dr.
Seuss's birthday, host two Book Fairs a year, and have an annual
BOOK-IN where students bring their pillows, blankets or sleeping
bags, a favorite stuffed animal and a plethora of books to the
library for a fun and relaxed reading session. Family Nights are
in the planning stages for the near future.
