| "Wake Up!" is a unique
youth prevention program developed in City of Phoenix schools
for seventh and eighth grade students. "Wake Up!" makes
youth aware that choices exist, and that bad choices have consequences.
It then goes a step further by providing recognition and rewarding
experiences for positive behavior. "Wake Up!" goes beyond
simply instructing children in what behaviors they should avoid.
Police officers actually present and demonstrate an alternate
path for children to follow. Participation by the youth requires,
and then perpetuates, a commitment of service to the community,
avoidance of violence, and positive achievement. These efforts
are accomplished as a group, within a social environment, providing
peer support and team building. Partnerships are created among
the police, students, parents, community organizations, local
businesses, and the schools. The "Wake Up!" club is
the essence of community in action. For more information please
contact the citywide coordinator at: (602) 495-5423.
Ninas Con Destinos is an extracurricular activity whose purpose
is to encourage young women to succeed in school, take pride in
their culture and continue their studies after high school. The
president of our club is Jennifer Lerma. Mrs. Romo and Ms. Vega
are the sponsors.
Photo Club: Students who demonstrate academic excellence and
or a personal interest in photography, may commit to joining
the
Photo
Club
where they are in charge of preserving school related events
and raising the necessary finds to assist the school in the
maintenance
of all the aspects of photography. Along with the sponsor, students
meet regularly to discuss, record and build on their knowledge
of photography and eventually video productions
