Programs

Programs

    • Technology – an introduction to computers and other technology for students K-5
    • Library – lessons that support Library Standards are provided and K-5 students are able to check out at least one book per week.
    • Health and Nutrition – lessons in leading and sustaining a healthy lifestyle are offered to all students K-5. The school also upholds the Wellness Policy of the district.
    • Physical Education – Physical activities and lessons regarding good sportsmanship are offered once per week for students in 3-5 and twice per week for those in K-2.
    • Science – Lessons in all disciplines of science are offered to all students K-5 in addition to the science lessons delivered daily by the classroom teacher.
    • Art – lessons in appreciating art and in techniques for creating art are offered to all students K-5.
    • Full Day Kindergarten – For all students age 5 by September 1.
    • Special Education – Classes for those students identified with special needs. Classes include: Speech, Communication Disorder, Self-Contained, and Resource.
    • Reading First – Grant recipients for the sixth year in a row. Reading First provides professional development to teachers in the area of scientifically based reading instruction and intervention as well as a Reading Coach and Interventionist to work with both teachers and students. Students are progress monitored in reading fluency on a consistent basis and instruction is planned based on the results of Dynamic Indicator of Basic Early Literacy Success (DIBELS).
    • English Language Development (ELD) – A four-hour language block is mandated for all students not yet proficient in English in grades K-5. The four hours are divided as follows: 1 hour Vocabulary, 1 hour Reading, 1 hour Grammar, and 1 hour of Writing and Oral Language Development. ELD teachers are highly qualified and hold either an SEI, ESL, or BIL endorsement.
    • MAC-Ro Math is sponsored by the Rodel Foundation. It provides math support activities for parents and students to work on together.
    • Math Response to Intervention (R.T.I.) Direct instruction to increase students’ fluency in math
    • Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds – Schoolwide program which focuses on eating healthy foods and incorporating physical activities in our daily lives.
    • SNAP-Ed –This nutrition program, sponsored by the University of Arizona, incorporates nutrition lessons into the daily curriculum, and provides materials and activities for the classroom to support these lessons. Parent Information Resource Center – parent involvement activities and parenting workshops sponsored by this outside agency
